During Asian trading on Wednesday, gold prices rebounded from an intraday low of $3,916, temporarily breaking away from three-week lows.
The market generally believes that the Federal Reserve will announce an interest rate cut of 25 basis points at its meeting later that day, bringing the federal funds rate range to 3.75%-4.00%. However, traders tended to be cautious before the results were released, and the rebound in gold prices was limited.
In terms of market sentiment, the easing of trade concerns has suppressed demand for safe havens. The United States and high-level officials from Asian countries have recently reached a preliminary framework agreement. This development has alleviated market concerns about global trade tensions, thus weakening the safe-haven appeal of gold.
At the same time, the U.S. government is still in a financial impasse, with the Senate failing to pass a temporary appropriation bill for the 13th consecutive time, reflecting the continued political differences in Congress.
In terms of geopolitics, the U.S. government announced new sanctions on two large Russian energy www.xm-forex.companies and canceled scheduled bilateral meetings, making the market cautious about the global situation.
"The short-term trend of gold is still subject to the dual constraints of the Federal Reserve's policy and geopolitical risks. If the interest rate cut expectations are fulfilled and the tone of the statement is moderate, the price of gold is expected to receive periodic support." A New York precious metals strategist pointed out.
From a technical perspective, XAU/USD has found phased support near $3,917, and the daily chart shows that the price is trying to build a rebound structure. The lower support levels are located at US$3916, US$3900 and US$3886 (recent swing lows).
If it falls below these areas, the price may further drop to US$3843 (50% Fibonacci retracement level), even touching the integer mark of $3,800.
On the contrary, if the price of gold can return above $4,000, it will become a key dividing point between long and short. After breaking through this mark, the target range will reach the mid-term resistance level of $060, further challenging the psychological price of $4,100.
Current technical indicators show that the momentum is slightly bearish, and MACD is still in the negative zone. However, if gold prices hold above $3,900, the short-term rebound momentum is expected to continue.
